Beyond the ordinary
This morning started the way most of mine do lately, medicated and chaotic. I took NyQuil the night before to deal with a stubborn cough that refuses to move on like a bad ex. Naturally, I overslept by an hour, only to be jolted awake by the soundtrack of my three dogs absolutely losing their minds. The neighbor and his dog had the audacity to walk outside, and that apparently required a full-on barkstorm. Thanks for the gentle wake-up, guys. NOT!
I stumbled out of bed and shuffled into the kitchen, eyes barely open, Darn, I'm out of coffee, lets get ready for the day. Cue Charlie Parker, my 10-pound agent of chaos. This little tiktac decided the vibe was too calm in the house. He sparked an all-out chase with the two larger dogs (60 and 80 pounds respectively), then booked it under the couch where they physically cannot follow. He stayed there like a smug little king while they spun in circles, losing their minds. Honestly, he’s an inspirationto us all; be the chaos, embrace the storm.
After the morning formalities and routines that ensure we do not offend others I make my way to the loung to wait for deliveries. I brought my laptop with me, I figured I'd get some work done and then I saw It, saw an email from a buyers agent. My stomach braced for the usual drama that comes with inspection replies. But plot twist: they asked for nothing. Zero. Nada. I refreshed the email three times to make sure I wasn’t hallucinating. Thank God for small miracles, It was the most uneventful real estate development I’ve ever celebrated.
The real drama, though? A new shipment arrived for the cigar lounge my fiancé and I are happily and excitedly unboxing our shiny soda fridge. Except… the front glass was shattered like my will to do taxes. Picture it: a sleek piece of equipment, dead on arrival. I somehow channeled my inner adult, calmly reported it to Home Depot, and now we wait two more weeks for a replacement. Two more weeks of staring at empty fridge space and practicing patience I did not sign up for. What do they say at Yoga "OHMMM"
Did I get around to updating QuickBooks? Of course not. Math is hard, it be mathing. The receipts will still be there tomorrow, or the next, judging me with the same intensity I used on the delivery guy. There are limits to what one woman can do in a day and spreadsheets were simply not invited to the party. Not Today
🥀 Saving Grace: My Fat Bottomed Betty
By evening, I decided I deserved a treat. I retreated to my private home lounge, a sacred place where chaos is replaced with jazz and judgment is suspended. Wearing the height of loungewear luxury: an oversized t-shirt and basketball shorts. Eat your heart out, Vogue.
I lit up a Drew Estate Fat Bottomed Betty, and instantly, the world made sense again. The cigar lit easily, and the flavor… a perfect kiss. The creamy blend of chocolate and vanilla notes wrapped me in a velvet hug of “you survived the day, babe.” There was a sweetness, a spiced warmth, like the comfort of being a little unhinged but deeply self-aware. Yeah, today was messy, but here I am, lighting a cigar and ending it with a little flair.

So yeah. Some days you oversleep, play referee to dogs, handle broken equipment with pretend grace, and dodge your financial responsibilities. Did I forget to mention that i had a calendar mishap and missed a lunch date with a State Representative , Yeah that happened too. Let's leave that story for another day. But if you can close out your day in soft clothes with a Fat Bottomed Betty between your fingers, maybe, just maybe, you’re doing fine.
